Using Photography to Give Back - Washington, D.C.

I had the amazing opportunity to use my craft to give back to an effort that means so much to me.

As I traveled to Washington, D.C. I had no idea what I was about to get into. Politics have never been my thing, but the ocean has. My plan was to go in with an open heart and open mind and spread the word of how critical it is to protect this amazingly resilient, aw-striking, and extremely vital resource. The Surfrider Organization hosts the Coastal Recreation Hill Day annually and I was honored to capture the experience of the 2019 Virginia Chapter team.

In the span of seven hours, we met with nine Virginia representatives to ask for their support on five major issues threatening our oceans and coasts today.

If you’re interested in learning more about fighting offshore oil drilling, making clean water and public health priority, halting plastic pollution, supporting ocean protections, and promoting coastal resilience, I urge you to visit www.surfrider.org and become a member today!
